Campaign Shift Leaves Historic Finale in the Dust

November 1, 2026 2 min read

Ken Paxton seems to have abandoned the grand finale of his Come and Take It bus tour, scrubbing a planned rally at the Alamo just days before Election Day. While the Republican U.S. Senate nominee had originally framed the historic site as the ultimate symbol of resistance for his closing message, the event has vanished from his official schedule. In its place, the campaign has slotted in two Monday stops in Conroe and Allen, moving the final stretch of his journey hundreds of miles away from San Antonio.

The sudden pivot comes amid growing confusion regarding whether the event was ever officially sanctioned. The Alamo Trust recently indicated they were unaware of any such plans and noted that their general rules typically forbid political gatherings on the grounds. Despite these hurdles, Paxton’s team has remained silent when asked why the venue was dropped or how they intended to handle logistics at the landmark. This quiet exit follows a string of other cancellations and rescheduling mishaps across cities like El Paso and Texarkana throughout the tour.

Opponents were quick to seize on the scheduling chaos, framing it as a sign of waning momentum for the candidate. Democratic challenger James Talarico mocked the situation as a total collapse of the tour, suggesting that poor attendance was driving Paxton into hiding behind massive financial contributions from Elon Musk. While Paxton continues to position himself as a fighter protecting Texas traditions against a radical left, Talarico has spent his own final sprint crossing the state on a tour themed after Friday Night Lights.

As the race remains deadlocked between the two candidates, Paxton is leaning heavily on appearances with Donald Trump and JD Vance to energize his base. However, replacing a symbolic stand at one of Texas’ most famous landmarks with routine stops at restaurants may leave some supporters wondering about the direction of his final push toward November. For now, there is no word from the campaign on whether they intend to return to their original vision for a dramatic finish.
